    The contents of the William A.S. Sarjeant geological and palaeontological ephemera collection consist almost exclusively of materials from the personal library of Professor William Sarjeant. William Antony Swithin (Bill) Sarjeant (1935-2002) was born and educated in Sheffield, England, receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield in 1959. He began his academic career as a geologist at the University of Nottingham before joining the faculty of the University of Saskatchewan in 1972. Professor Sarjeant continued to work at University of Saskatchewan until his death in 2002. Beyond his academic accomplishments, he was also active as local historian, literary scholar, novelist, folklorist, folksinger, and bibliophile.

    Scope and content

    The William A.S. Sarjeant geological and palaeontological ephemera collection contains a wide variety of materials (monographs, reports, journals, reprints. guidebooks, etc.) related to the study of geology and palaeontology. Some papers from non-geological fields of scientific inquiry are also present.
